WIRS Website: a website designed for researchers
This website provides researchers a platform to socialize with other researchers with academic backgrounds that they are interested in. Researchers use this platform for finding well-matched collaborators for specified topics, multidisciplinary consults and high-quality work.
Ideation
I interviewed PhD students to research on their needs. The students were from different fields such as economics and computer science. And they were from different universities. After pinpointing the need to the problem in finding collaborators, a persona and journey map were built for designing the website.
UX Design
The web pages were designed in Figma. Users can search keywords including names, topics and other information to find collaborators. They can also view system recommendations. Users are able to chat with each other and discuss their work and intention for collaboration. Each user builds their own academic profile.
Web Application Programming
Based on the design, I used Node.js, Express and MongoDB to build the website. I implemented the main page, user authentication page, keyword searching page and user profile page. I deployed the website using Heroku.
